It was 15 minutes rather than an hour and a half. It was my bedroom rather than a gusty field. But I still got this:

wow! that's so impressive! What camera are you using?
I have a Canon EOS Rebel T1i, and I had it set to a 2 second exposure. Basically I just hit the button whenever I saw a flicker of lightening and hoped that a good bolt happened while the shutter was open. I took a lot of totally black photos, but that is the beauty of digital- that wasteful photos don't matter.
