I’m sure other parents will agree with me when I say that monitoring your kids’ screen time is practically a full time job. Every one of our kids has their own iPad (because we are consumerist jerks), and I fully confess to not following the recommended daily time limits. But the more I read about the addictive effects of electronic usage (and see the symptoms in my children), the more I determine to enforce better rules and guidelines for my children.

I may have mentioned last week that it was Sophie’s 8th birthday, and by “mentioned” of course I mean “shoved 47 pictures of her darling face down your throats instead of writing anything meaningful.” So Friday was her birthday, but Saturday was her present, when we took her and the other kids to the indoor water park. We don’t do birthday parties around here anymore, because I am a terrible mom and they really don’t need any more stuff. So instead of wrangling 20 kids at some giant bounce house, we wedged our pasty winter bodies into swim gear and headed for CocoKeys. Continue reading

Remember when I said I was going to try out a bunch of natural mascaras and then review them for you in my search to find the best one? Way back in September? Turns out, the very next mascara I tried (which was actually the one I wanted to buy first but it was sold out that day) was a winner. And because I am a terrible blogger, I just kept using it and never posted a review.
You must have all been on the edge of your seats in suspense.
Is it just me or does this winter seem drier than usual so far? I’ve been running my humidifier and doing all the usual things to stay hydrated, but still I feel like my lips and sinuses are drier than ever. I don’t love it.
